ARBY’S® FRANCHISING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs):
- 1. Does Arby's® provide financing for restaurant development?
- Although we do not finance franchise development, we can provide you with a list of potential lenders who will welcome your call.
- 2. May I build one restaurant or do I have to commit to several restaurants?
- We prefer multi-unit agreements, but are aware, there are circumstances under which we would consider smaller (one or two unit) agreements.
- 3. Does Arby's purchase the real estate on behalf of a franchisee, provide real estate leases or build-to-suit arrangements?
- Each franchisee is responsible for acquiring real estate as well as contracting the construction of their restaurant.
- 4. Many of the larger QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) chains have restrictions on where I can build my restaurant; does Arby's® have these types of territorial restrictions?
- Many areas of the country are open and available for development. Call our Franchise Development Department at (866) MY-ARBYS to begin the application process and to get specific answers to territory availability.
- 5. May I "buy" a development territory?
- Yes. Arby's offers Market Development Agreements (MDAs) for specific geographic areas. The terms of the MDA (including the number of restaurants to build and time requirements to have units opened) are determined by the available territory, including the potential for the area to support new restaurants, the number of restaurants in the agreement and the ease or difficulty of development within the specific area or municipality. Arby's determines the potential for the area based on population, demographics, competition and other factors.
- 6. What kind of support can I expect from Arby's during the real estate and construction process?
- We share mapping, competition and demographic data with our franchisees. Once you have a potential site on which to develop, you will be required to complete a "Request for Site Review." Once the Real Estate Manager (REM) receives the completed site package, it will be reviewed to determine acceptability of the site for a new location. The Construction Project Manager (CPM) will assist the franchisee with building requirements and design and can make recommendations on potential contractors in your area.
- 7. What other type of ongoing support does Arby's Restaurant Group provide?
- Once the restaurant is built, our ongoing support includes equipment, packaging, marketing, training, quality assurance and operations support.
- 8. What type of operations support does Arby's provide in conjunction with my first restaurant opening?
- We require that three managers attend and graduate from the seven-week Restaurant Manager Training Program (RMTP) in a Certified Arby's Training Restaurant. Arby's pays the cost of the in-store training; the franchisee is responsible for travel, room lodging, and miscellaneous expenses. Arby's will provide on-site restaurant training and opening support which will begin several months before opening, with timeline checklists to be completed by the Franchise Business Manager (FBM), either in person or by telephone. An FBM will arrive at the restaurant one week before store opening to assist with training and other operational support for a period of 10 days.
- 9. May I develop an Arby's restaurant inside or adjoining a gasoline station or convenience store?
- Yes
- 10. What are Arby's fees?
- Arby's has a franchise fee of $37,500 for the first restaurant and $25,000 for each additional unit. The first fee is higher to cover additional training and administrative requirements involved with introducing new franchisees. Franchisees pay royalties of 4% of gross sales, an advertising marketing service and national advertising fee of 1.2% of gross sales, and must purchase local advertising of at least 3% of gross sales.
- 11. How much profit can I expect from my Arby's restaurants?
- We encourage prospective franchisees to conduct significant due diligence prior to committing to any new business venture. Existing Arby's franchisees are an excellent source to answer questions regarding operations, marketing, finances, etc. We provide names and phone numbers of existing franchisees in the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).
